The new special exhibition “British Sports Cars in Luxembourg” officially opened yesterday evening at the Conservatoire National de Véhicules Historiques in Diekirch. The exhibition was organized in collaboration with the British Sports Car Owners Club of Luxembourg (BSCOC) and is held under the patronage of the British Embassy in Luxembourg.

Numerous guests attended the opening, including members of the BSCOC and the CNVH, representatives of the press, and many friends, supporters, and enthusiasts of British automotive culture. The British Embassy was represented that evening by Daniel Shaikh, Chargé d’affaires at the British Embassy in Luxembourg.

The official opening of the evening was presided over by the newly elected president of the CNVH, Tom Sauber, who highlighted the exhibition’s special cultural significance in his speech.

“This exhibition is intended not only to showcase fascinating vehicles, but above all to bring a piece of British culture and passion to Luxembourg.”

Tom Sauber pointed out that classic cars always tell stories about people:

“Behind every vehicle lie memories, encounters, and often generations of enthusiasts who have carried on this passion for cars.”

In addition, the CNVH president highlighted the museum’s longstanding ties to the British automotive world, as well as the numerous volunteer efforts and international contacts that made this exhibition possible.

Daniel Shaikh provided a special highlight of the evening when he spontaneously addressed the guests. In his remarks, he emphasized the significance of the exhibition from the perspective of the British Embassy and expressly commended the CNVH’s efforts to make British culture visible and accessible in Luxembourg.

He was impressed by how historic vehicles make the evolution of technology easy to understand while still evoking emotion and enthusiasm today. Daniel Shaikh expressed his appreciation to the CNVH and the BSCOC and wished the exhibition every success.

One of the most emotional moments of the evening was the tribute to Jean-Marie Schmit, to whom a separate section of the exhibition was dedicated. In his speech, Jean Hansen, president of the BSCOC, paid tribute to his late friend and longtime companion:

“With Jean-Marie’s passing, we have lost not only a dedicated member, but above all a true friend.”

At the same time, Jean Hansen expressed deep emotion at the fact that the CNVH is dedicating a permanent and visible tribute to Jean-Marie Schmit as part of this exhibition.

Historian and curator Nadia Klasen then guided the guests through the history of British automotive culture and explained the evolution of British sports cars—from legendary roadsters to iconic racing and luxury vehicles that have left a lasting mark on international automotive history.

The exhibition “British Sports Cars in Luxembourg” will be on display at the CNVH in Diekirch over the next twelve months, showcasing numerous exceptional vehicles, historical documents, and a variety of thematic displays centered on the world of British automobiles.
