On September 19, 2024, the Conservatoire National de Véhicules Historiques (CNVH) in Diekirch exclusively invited its members to the unveiling and presentation of its latest acquisition. Earlier this year, the CNVH, the local automobile museum, was able to acquire the winning car of the 1951 Luxembourg Grand Prix – the legendary Cooper MK5, powered by a Norton engine. The car was driven by Briton Alan Brown, who not only won the Luxembourg Grand Prix with this car, but also the prestigious Silverstone Grand Prix in the same year. Now, 73 years later, the vehicle has returned to Luxembourg.

For this special event, the renowned 500 Formula 3 expert Maurice van der Brempt from Belgium was invited. In an exclusive interview with the treasurer of the CNVH, Dr. Stefan Jacobs, van der Brempt shared his memories as a young boy at the 1951 Luxembourg Grand Prix. This conversation revealed numerous exciting stories – from personal experiences at the race to fascinating details about the Cooper MK5, the Grand Prix scene at the time, and the beginnings of motorsport.
In addition, the CNVH announced that a newly formed working group led by Vice President Tom Sauber will use the 30 years of research by Grand Prix de Luxembourg expert Goy Feltes to integrate the Cooper MK5 into a comprehensive mise-en-scène. This exhibition will highlight the five historical Grand Prix de Luxembourg and is expected to be open to the general public in the week of the national holiday in 2025. In addition to Goy Feltes, the working group will be supported by aspiring historian Nadia Klasen.
President Georges Carbon encourages institutions interested in participating in or supporting this mise-en-scène to contact the CNVH. Any form of cooperation is welcome in order to appropriately honor this important chapter in Luxembourg's motorsport history.
